In this 3 1-2 minute video I show you one of the best ways to contract your quad, buttocks, and hamstring. You will need a chair, bench or something to step up onto. Also, it needs to be high enough to engage your quadricep muscles.

This is an advanced exercise for your quad, glute, and back of the leg so balance is very important!

As you step up with one leg bring your free leg straight back while pulling the toes towards your shin, keeping your hips pointed forward, making sure to keep the toes pointing forward as well. As you heel goes higher squeeze your glute and hold for a brief second or two. Then release and let your free leg come down as you return back to the floor.

Do 15 to 20 repetitions on each leg followed with 3 to 4 sets.

You will feel your quads and butt begin to burn especially when you return slowly to the floor. When you step up to do another repetition please try not to push off the floor with your free foot. It’s a form of cheating. You may have to do this in the beginning until your legs and glutes get stronger. Try to keep it to a minimum.

Another point of caution, please try to keep your knee behind your toes as you step up and come down.
